Jan. 15th, 2009 01:46 pmDragon is also hard.
Ah, hell. And fun.
Blue and red dragon can be adapted to the basement hall* pretty well. (Though I'm still holding back on the kicks in little red a bit. Once I'm consistently getting more air when I have room again, I'll work out what I have to do to make them fit into the restricted space.) Green... not so much. I *tried*. The best moment was when I went into the rolling sweep... and realized that I just didn't have enough room to get around, so I went into a (fairly graceful, really) slide kind of onto my hip and shoulder. The timing worked out so I ended up more or less at the feet of the elderly Chinese guy who does morning walking in the same halls. (We're pretty friendly. He thought it was funny. Of course, me sliding across the sooty cement floor with a big rueful grin on my face probably was pretty funny.) It turns out that if I'm really careful on timing, I can fit that move into that space... but not with the rest of the form. So maybe that's better for the apartment.
Amtrak is having a sale, which reminds me that I could take the train to NYC over spring break (though train times in Cleveland suck terribly). I should probably look into bus fairs to Ithaca as well. (Other localish ideas? I am resolved to be less of a stick in the mud this year... And I want to avoid flying as much as I can.**)
I'm kind of tempted to take up the Chen competition form again, just for fun. Though that also won't fit well into the hall, I suspect. (Though I did make it fit onto the bridge at Twin Falls, which isn't much bigger. Best place for practicing ever...)
* It was -18 C. Which wouldn't have stopped me from training outside if I wasn't getting over a cold - unless I was in a hurry, dressing takes time - but I'm trying to be kind to my body. Apparently spending a bunch of time teaching martial arts when I'm hoarse is not being kind, at least to my voice.***
** I actually really like flying. Okay, mostly I like taking off and landing, and would probably find the rest more interesting were I taking a more active role (mostly it's just like being on an overcrowded bus, though turbulence is more entertaining). But the environmental cost of flying disturbs me.
*** And tonight it's supposed to be -20 C. And while really, I feel pretty much fine even if I sound awful (and my lungs are a little touchy, which is the real issue, as I'll sometimes get low grade asthma from cold dry air just because they're ornery if I'm doing high intensity work in it, and at that temperature yes, it will be high intensity work, thanks) um, yeah. Huh. I really like weaponds work in the snow, too. Maybe I'll head home before dark and get another session in in the afternoon.
Come to think of it, all you Seattle kids who thought your weather was lousy?

(Okay, yes, I do enjoy weather. Pretty much all weather. I just figure if you hated the Seattle snow - and I'll admit, Seattle doesn't really do snow right, though Lauren had some interesting stories about the great Capitol Hill Snow Party... - you'd probably hate this too. It's kind of amusing really - it's -14C now, which is probably about the high for the day. The snow squeaks under your feet kind of like corn starch.)
Also: I really should go make a snow icon. Or a few winter icons, for that matter. (Somehow I don't think K would be happy if I put one of his squash outside to get snowed on, though it would OMG so cute! and mine have mostly been eaten.)
