Just a couple of useful bits:

Liam, an old friend, got his VFFs repaired by Dave Page (general cobbler to the hiking set, and pretty amazing guy) http://davepagecobbler.com/ So if you have a pair with, say, a hole in the sole but otherwise intact, you might give him a try.

Also, I've been continuing to repair various de-lamination issues with barge cement. Basically, it does work, but it also has a learning curve. And it might not be permanent, but it will last for a few months at least and is pretty easy to reapply. (And it might be that they are permanent when applied properly.) Anyone who is interested in playing with it, let me know - the two real key things are getting a good even coating on each side, particularly around the edges, and letting the glue cure in air long enough before attaching the sides to each other. The instructions I've seen usually say to coat each surface with glue and let it cure for ten to fifteen minutes before putting them together. My experience is that twenty-five minutes often yields far better results - but then I'm putting pretty thick coats of the glue down.
