Jan. 15th, 2011 02:49 pmSo yesterday I wasn't going to run, because I was going to be sane and careful and not give myself achilles tendonitis, right? Well, I decided that a little bit of running on the treadmill downstairs, just to test it out and figure out how it worked didn't count - that wasn't running, it was testing.
Holy crap, treadmills are weird. But kind of fun. I mean, not fun like actually running, but it makes it a lot easier to modulate my speed, and my lungs were happier than they have been. And it still is enough like running for my body to do the happy running thing. (And I stretched assiduously.)
So that was great, until I was walking to the co-op and then home, where my ankles determined that the snow on the ground plus the three degree heel drop on my shoes on top of legs not used to running was just Too Much. Ow. Problems at the tendon connection, but also other alignment issues. Hobbled home, stretched assiduously.
This morning I woke up with my legs a little stiff, but not bad. Since there was a gap between sparring and training, I decided to do a little cardio first to warm up, but used the bike instead of the treadmill. No happy biking thing, but still a good idea. Especially since if my hips are both tight and cold it's really hard to get the alignment I'm currently obsessing over. Stretched assiduously. This really seems to be working. Might run tomorrow if I feel good and have time (it's a Teisho Sunday, so I'll be on a compressed morning schedule). So, maybe I have a plan.
It occurs to me that the stance and step work I'm doing will probably help my overall running alignment (as well as everything else with my body). Eventually. It's kind of nice to see the Iyengar Yoga and the Chen finding so much common ground.
