So, I've about had it with the Touchbook. Fun bit of tech idealism, but... no. It's just not usable most of the time. I suspect it's going to live on the front of the refrigerator.

So. Over the next year or so I'm probably going to be doing a general upgrade. I'm altogether grouchy about the laptop system - can't find anything that doesn't involve losing dpi over my current box.

But more to the point, I'd really like to get a good mobile platform together. What I've wanted for some time now (like ten years) is a tablet with a separate keyboard. The keyboard should be small and portable, and either wireless or cabled, as part of the point is I'd like to be able to have my keyboard in my lap and my screen lifted up a fair bit for ergonomic purposes. Anyhow, this seems pretty doable, I'd just like to get an idea what people are using.

Requirements: Must run an open source operating system, and run it really well. I'm in a pretty bad mood about Android this month, especially with the tablet optimized source not being released to the community (note again, I'm looking for a tablet) but a Viewsonic running Cyanogen or something might be reasonable. I want it to be fairly fast, and have a decent screen. And wifi, and bluetooth - I really don't care about it talking to cell networks, it can talk to the phone.

I have no idea what is the current state of the market in terms of foldable, rollable or otherwise portable keyboards. I like near full sized keys, and good key action.

Recommendations?
