Jul. 20th, 2011 07:58 amI think the biggest problem Diana the cat and I are having right now is that during the bit where she was having a lot of stomach problems, she learned a terrible thing.
Sometimes I will give her canned food.
This changed her whole worldview. Now we go through a ritual where she asks for food. I take her dish, put food in it, and then leave it on the counter to warm up. (She *hates* this part. But if she encounters the food when it is cold right out of the refrigerator, she declares it forever inedible.) Eventually, I put it down for her.
And then she spends a while sniffing it, acting dejected, and chirping and begging for the other food. The really, really good food. The food that changed her life. The more thoroughly I ignore these displays, the more quickly she gives it all up and goes about knocking morsels of food onto the floor and eating them.
It is so hard to be a starving little kitty. So hard!!
[ETA: I am on course for operation Eat All the Vegetables. Maybe a little ahead, even. Which is good because cooking might well and truly suck tonight - we're getting all these heat index alerts telling us to drink lots of water, avoid the sun and lock ourselves in our refigerators while contacting our friends and relatives on our cellphones.
I'm thinking I might buy a fan. Though I still have that air conditioner, in a box, not that far away...
And I think I'll go running.]
