Sep. 22nd, 2011 10:39 amThis isn't really why my posting is so sporadic - that's all about being really busy.*
But. My Diaspora pod, diasp.org, recently did this featured user thing so we could all see who else was on the pod and friend folks and stuff. And I'm a featured user (because I said I thought it would be fun) and all the sudden I have a bunch of Diaspora contacts - if mostly on my pod - and gosh, what an interesting group of people. (For the last bit before, it had been mostly
randomdreams and I chatting. Because damn it, in order for it to become a successful platform, people have to use it!)
By the way, I'm tylik@diasp.org, just as you'd expect ;-)
Most of my Diaspora stuff is still public, and a lot of it forwards to Twitter (and hence Facebook). And Diaspora isn't all the way grown up yet - it still lacks a community feature, for instance, though one is in the works. But it's becoming a more and more interesting platform.
....and also, not Facebook. (Or more to the point, not any particular company, but a network of distributed pods, and respect for user information. I mean, I'm just saying.)
* Like so busy my lab meeting presentation became "This is what I'm doing TA'ing neurobio lab". Admittedly, Dr. C used to be one of the professors that co-taught the class (now it's just Dr. W and I) so he gets it. Actually, all I had to say was "Imagine trying to get a class to set up a different neurobio preparation and get data every week" and everyone else got it.
