Bicyclists - I'm looking for gear recommendations!
I'm getting ready for trying to push how much biking I get done over the winter. I have a reasonable start - K found us some really eyebleeding yellow with lots of reflective stripes windbreakers that are at least as visible as my lost and lamented blazing orange jacket. And of course there's the Ortlieb's, the helmet cover, the Mechanix Zone 2 gloves, and I have my Schwalbe's studded tired all picked out.
But I don't have everything covered. What I need:
Gloves: The mechanix are great in snow and wind, but they soak through if it's rain and wind. I need something waterproof, and mid-weight would be fine.
Balaclava: Really cold weather with lots of wind and sleet. I want one of the high tech balaclavas that will protect my face and not either steam up my glasses or get all damp and weird where I've been breathing. It'd help if it didn't look like a ninja mask (I'll also be wearing it while training outside sometimes) but whatever, I'll live.
Rain pants: I've been wearing the pants from an old warm up suit and then changing. That works, but is not ideal. What would be great is something that keeps the rain off, fits over my other pants, and yet is still close enough fitting that it's easy to bike in. (Remember the recumbent chain is long and likes to taste things.)
Other thoughts? I have plenty of goggles to choose from. Oh, yeah, and I'll look into a cheap student bus pass for those days when biking would be a symptom of self destructive behavior.
