Things that are great:

* B gave me a ride way across town to get the procedure done. (Thanks B!)

* The doctors and staff were great. Actually, that should be
* The doctor was great - nice, upbeat, totally not worried by my neuro background, prefers to have patients non-sedated, and used a different angle of approach than I've seen before - which meant coming in through the side rather than the back of my neck, which is more stuff, but less bone and less chance of stray nerves. Pretty cool. And such a relief after Dr. Twit.
* The staff were great. Generally chatty and upbeat, though it was funny being obviously taken as pretty young (I tend to dress up for appointments, B, OTOH, was in a hoody. Questions were obviously aimed at 23 year olds - "What classes are you taking?" Okay, cute trendy hat does seem to drop my apparent age down even further.) And then one recommended this completely awesome localy sourced diner with really good breakfasts, including vegan food. Yum! (waddle)

* One of my students (well, undergrad TA, who's also something of a friend) was willing to stop by the house so we could resolve her programming problem, meaning that it's resolved, and I didn't have to go to work. Also, she's one step closer to installing Ubuntu (at least to dual boot). Windows is such a pita.

* Anesthetic is wearing off, and it will probably be at least another day before the analgesic effects (if this worked) kick in. But: I'm probably not going to be working, or not very much. I've drug myself in when I've been in far worse shape, but right now I feel I can take the time off, so I am.

* Meanwhile, it occured to me that I should just order that darned balaclava (thanks [livejournal.com profile] canyonwren!) So, I too the REI gift card from a student, applied the 20% off coupon (members only coupons expire 10/16), threw in a pair of yak trax (the old ones broke) and a vita bag to bring it up to free shipping... and paid less that $6 out of pocket. Score! (Cleveland winter biking requires a balaclava. Don't want face to shatter, or be abraded off.)

* It also occurred to me that if I have one pair of nicer pants I like, and the manufacturer makes dressier pants to a similar cut, I might be able to acquire dressier pants without going shopping. So, a bit of time on ebay, $12, and some are coming.

Now I need to find some tweed vests and jackets, possibly to alter. I'm thinking Goodwill.

...and K reminds me that the PhD Comics movie is playing tonight. Darn. That would be fun... but not so much fun that I will drag my achy self to campus. I think trash fiction, hot baths, and smoothies are in order. Any recs for fluffy fiction?
