So, Monday I got my new computer. She's a Lenovo ThinkPad w530, with the higher res screen, the Intel Core i7-3720QM Processor, and she'll have 32 gb of RAM (though she doesn't yet. I should just order that today so I get it before the conference...) Her name is Sujata, she compiles blindingly fast (though I can't really take full advantage of the multi core and hyperthreading with the minimal RAM I bought - aftermarket RAM being cheaper)... and I love her very much.

Not that every new relationship doesn't have its bumpy patches. She has both intel integrated graphics and an nvidia card. Setting up the nvidia card fully is going to be a hassle. But there are issues with the intel drivers... which originally showed up in terms of being unable to run redshift* but now is causing seg faults when I try to run the version of blender I just built. (This isn't even the hacked version, this was supposed to be just testing out my build environment.) So, I have an idea what I'm going to be doing today, and it's probably not actually working on my models.

My summer student just sent a copy of her poster in to be printed, and is off working on her paper. (Final presentation is tomorrow.) Sunday most of us leave for the Neuroethology conference. This all... does not suck ;-)

* Have I mentioned redshift? This is the linux version of f.lux, and it changes your color temperature to correspond with the time of day - so it gets dimmer and vaguely sunset colored from dusk to dawn, essentially. Wonderful thing, is redshift, but not having it working isn't a huge problem for me. (Since I don't take this box to bed with me, and use Neyetlight on my Android devices.)
