tylikAnd so begins day three without power.
The official power company's count of how many people are without in our "city" is essentially the same as yesterday morning - though they might be having server issues, it was all over the place yesterday.
Again, it's mostly not a big deal. It takes longer to made food, and we're both using more pots since we don't have a microwave. The weather is staying well above freezing, so it's "wear an extra sweater and a hat" cold indoors.
Some notes, though:
* My computer has a pretty major battery. Since the lab has power, everything gets charged there, and then I charge small devices off my computer overnight. Even though I used the main box yesterday evening, and stupidly left my phone turned on as a wifi AP, I was at 75% on the computer battery this morning.
* I'd thought about how it's a good idea to angle your headlamp down when people are around before, but it's clearly the polite convention, since we're both wearing ours pretty constantly.
* Where are my fingerless gloves? (Okay, haven't seriously looked. They weren't in the first place I looked, suspect I put them somewhere safe. :( )
* The freezer is holding up well, though I think the frozen veggies that aren't used are pretty much toast.
* A hot water bottle in my bed at night? The best. (Okay, I do this anyway if it's coolish and I'm not going to bed particularly warm.)
* The whole "keep a candle lantern as a flame source, and tapers next to the stove" is working well.
* Oh, and I have gotten back into loving my four candle lanterns, which I'd been feeling a little silly about. Though I am buying parafin candles for them from this point out - beeswax doesn't burn as well (I think they were designed for parafin) and is stick messy to get out.
* And the hat F, one of my twelve year old students, made me last year? Still the best hat in the world. Must remember to tell him.
