A Gender Poll

Many of you will notice that this is not the day's first poll posted on gender. The author of another poll and I were, earlier today, discussing whether the phrasing of that poll might have unduly effected the ways in which people responded. I kept kicking the idea around while I did shopping, and eventually decided to post my poll -- which hopefully will at least have an interestingly different bias.

Most of the passages we're doing in classical are just weird, but some are kind of neat. (And some are darn near incomprehensible without context.) I kind of liked this one:

用百人之所能則得百人之力
擧千人之所艾則得千人之心

If you make use of that which a hundred people are able to do, you will win the strength of one hundred people.
If you raise up that which a thousand people care about, you will win the hearts of a thousand people

("Win" is translating a bit freely... I'm caught between translating it in a way that conveys the sense well in English, and my knowledge that if I don't use an Approved Literal Translation I'll get dinged for it.

Oh, and I should say, that's just what I *think* it means. Feel free to differ.)

Okay. Back to physiological ontologies. Feh.

And I really need to get some better Chinese fonts. These are fugly.
